A new prestigious project where nobility lives on

de Mérode follows a rigorous design approach, inspired by the impressive city palace and its 20th-century Art Nouveau style. Through extensive research, VDD and architect &bogdan have developed an integrated, sustainable, and culturally relevant design that not only honors the location’s rich history but also complements its surroundings while preserving the site’s fundamental qualities.

From the start, the project team's ambition was to give the city palace back its lettre de noblesse and to complete the building block from an urban planning point of view through the harmonious integration of three new contemporary buildings.

Continuing a legacy of grandeur

The “Hôtel Particulier”, the former city palace of the de Mérode family, is being meticulously restored. All historically valuable elements, such as the facades, historic salons, ornaments and bay windows will be restored to their original glory and complemented by contemporary modifications inspired by the building’s heritage values.

New volumes complete the site

The project introduces three new volumes that blend seamlessly with the historical and urban context. The pared-down architecture is inspired by the design of the “Hôtel Particulier” with its typical vertical bay windows and historic carriage entrance and by 20th-century Art Nouveau.

The new volumes will be crafted from noble materials, including natural stone facades and bronze-colored external joinery, lending the site a warm, refined appearance that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding neighborhood.

The historic courtyard garden

Exclusive to residents, the historic courtyard garden forms a natural extension of the neighbouring Parc Tenbosch, seamlessly reflecting the beauty, tranquillity and serenity of the historic site. Designed by landscape architect Leon Van Haesebrouck, the garden has been carefully extended to preserve and enrich the valuable, protected trees and greenery.

A royal arrival

The entrance halls of de Mérode embody grandeur and timeless elegance. The historic carriageway will be meticulously restored, while a new entrance hall reinterprets its historic charm, blending tradition with a modern touch. Together, they enhance the project’s unique identity and offer a warm welcome for future residents and guests.
